Our mission
Support that starts with understanding, not labels.
Lumina was founded on a simple conviction: that dyslexia is not a barrier to brilliance but rather the style of teaching is the barrier and that not enough access to expertise is available. Too many learners spend too long feeling less than, or left behind before someone spots what is happening and how to help.
We exist to break that barrier to access, to expertise and to brilliance. From the first conversation to a diagnostic assessment and road map to a structured literacy plan. Watch your child's confidence and achievements bloom as every step is designed around the learner's individual and specific needs, not a checklist for what has been covered but not learned, or a standardised curriculum that leaves neuro diverse learners behind or one-size-fits-all programs that are hit and miss. Stop guessing, start glowing with the Lumina Neuro-Literacy Studio approach.

Meet the specialist
Francis Tobin
Francis Tobin is a leading specialist in Neuro-Literacy and Special Education, dedicated to helping students who struggle with traditional reading and writing models. With a career rooted in Dublin's primary and special education sectors, Francis brings a wealth of diverse classroom experience to support students with various learning requirements, including autism, ADHD, PDA and in particular dyslexia.
Francis's approach to tuition goes beyond simple homework or extra reading help. He specialises in evidence based, structured literacy, multisensory methods designed to reshape how the brain processes language and turn 'word guessers' into what he calls 'word detectives'. His background includes extensive experience as an Autism Class Teacher, Reading School Teacher, Mainstream Class teacher, SET and a tutor for Dyslexia Ireland. His sessions focus on structured literacy teaching, including phonological mastery and decoding/encoding skills and unique literacy laboratories. He takes pride in helping students develop the confidence, self belief, focus and organisational skills as well as the word detective skills necessary for academic independence.
Francis co-founded Lumina Neuro-Literacy Studio with a shared vision: to create a high support, high results environment where children move from guessing at words to glowing with confidence. Built on the belief that every child with the right multisensory methods and tools and the right expert guidance can unlock their full literacy potential.
The approach
Rooted in research. Shaped around the learner.
Three principles guide every session, every plan, and every conversation at Lumina.
Structured Literacy
Explicit, intensive, focused and structured instruction on a regular basis in phonics, decoding, and fluency, the approach with the strongest evidence base for dyslexic learners.
Evidence-Based Practice
Every intervention is grounded in peer-reviewed research. We don't use trendy programmes; we use what actually works.
Whole-Family Involvement
Parents and guardians are active partners, kept informed, equipped with strategies, and never left guessing what to do between sessions.
Our philosophy
Progress is personal. So is our support.
"A child who struggles to read is not a child who cannot learn, they are a child who has not yet been taught in the way that works for them."
We measure success in small, compounding wins, a word decoded without hesitation, a paragraph read aloud without dread, a learner who raises their hand in class for the first time. These moments don't happen by accident. They happen through consistency, patience, and a plan built for that specific person.
Our tuition is not a quick fix, it's a partnership and a step by step approach to long lasting results. We take that responsibility seriously for every family and school that trusts us with their learner.
Testimonials
What families and educators say.
Within three months my son was reading books. More than that, he was choosing to read. That's what Lumina gave us.
The structured literacy approach made the difference. We'd tried other tutors but nothing clicked until Lumina. The progress tracker helped us stay motivated and focused on our goals.
As a class teacher I was skeptical at first. After partnering with Lumina for one intensive block, two of my students made more progress than in the previous two terms.
