Dyslexia Info

Understanding dyslexia.

Clear, honest information for families, learners, and educators.

What is dyslexia

A different way of processing, not a measure of ability.

According to the 2025 Delphi study and as agreed by dyslexia specific organizations in the UK and Ireland, dyslexia is defined as 'A set of processing difficulties that affects how people learn to read and spell.' It also recognises that it is a neurological condition and requires a more inclusive and neurodiverse approach to intervention and learning. It is neurological, meaning it relates to how the brain processes language, not how intelligent or hard-working a person is.

Dyslexia exists on a spectrum. Some people experience mild difficulties; others find reading and writing significantly challenging. With the right support, dyslexic learners can and do thrive.

Dyslexia affects around 1 in 10 people. It is not related to intelligence.

  • Use of bizarre spelling patterns, frequent letter omissions, additions and transposition).
  • Lacks self-confidence and has low self-esteem.
  • Has difficulty planning or organizing.
  • Avoiding reading or writing tasks.

These signs alone don't confirm dyslexia. A formal assessment is the only way to know for certain.

Strengths

Dyslexia comes with real strengths too.

Many dyslexic thinkers excel in areas that depend on creativity, spatial reasoning, and seeing the world differently.

Creative thinking

Strong imagination and lateral problem-solving.

Big-picture thinking

Excellent at seeing patterns and connections others miss.

Practical problem-solving

Often highly capable in hands-on, real-world tasks.

Empathy & communication

Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.

The bigger picture

Family holiday to Lanzarote

The average Irish family spends around €80 per day on meals alone. One week = €560 before a single drink, ice pop, or activity is paid for.

We're not saying don't go on holiday. We're saying the cost of our specialist literacy support is smaller than you'd think, and lasts far longer than a tan.
